HISTORY OF
MAIDEN'S TOWER
Kız Kulesi that we used İn the
AYMOD fak poster is the historical witnesses of İstanbul. Önce used for
security or observation reasons, it cannot function today. Hovvever it is
the symbol of İstanbul because of its historical values. Built as a charming
vvhite building on a tiny island 150-200 meters offshore from Salacak,
Üsküdar, Kız Kulesi is one of the architectural components that adds to the
beauty of İstanbul. Ones who enjoy vvatching the historical peninsula from
the Üsküdar shores, know how the panorama of İstanbul gains colour and
liveliness with Kız Kulesi. It's been recognized since the early stages of
history and it enriches İstanbul not only with its aesthetic elegance, but
also with its memories and legends.
The information of a man-made
building where Kız Kulesi is located today dates back to 12th century. It's
know that the Byzantine emperor Manuel Kommenos I had two towers for the
purpose of def ence buitt in Bosphorus that faces the Sea of Marmara. İn
order to prevent attacks to İstanbul and tax dodge, a chain was stretched
between these tower, one of vvhich was located where Kız Kulesi is today and
the other at the shores of Sarayburnu
